About the RGV
Located at the southernmost tip of Texas, the Rio Grande Valley lies on the northern bank of the Rio Grande River, which divides Mexico from the United States. The region is made up of the four counties of Starr County, Hidalgo County, Willacy County, and Cameron County. With all counties combined, the Rio Grande Valley has a population of over 1 million residents.
The Rio Grande Valley is a subtropical coastal region with mild, dry winters and hot, humid summers and resides alongside the Gulf of Mexico. Many plant and animal species can only be found in this area, and they make our area one of a kind. This unique climate plays a specific role in making the Valley a great destination for birding, butterfly watching, and nature lovers.
The proximity to Mexico is a great way to experience a different culture close to home, granting easy access for across-the-border excursions. With nine international bridges across the Valley for traveling to and from Mexico, you can cross to have breakfast, do some shopping, and still make it back in time to watch the sunset on the South Padre Island bay!
Rich in culture and history, the Rio Grande Valley is a wonderful place for anyone to call home and beautiful destination for travelers from anywhere in the world. To plan a unique and exciting trip or outing, please visit ExploreRGV.com.
